Speeding driver jailed for killing cyclist on Birmingham road
Jayden Adams sent to prison following Heath Way collision
A driver who exceeded the speed limit by more than double on a Birmingham road has been sentenced to prison following a fatal collision with a cyclist.
Jayden Adams was driving a Seat Leon at more than twice the 30mph speed limit on Heath Way, Hodge Hill when he collided with cyclist Thomas Brown.
Thomas Brown, a 29-year-old father-of-one, suffered fatal injuries and died in hospital three days after the collision.
Jayden Adams, aged 27, from Over Pool Road, Ward End, was sentenced last Thursday at Birmingham Crown Court to 12 years in prison.
He previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, and perverting the course of justice. He also received a 12-year driving ban.
Immediately following the collision on the evening of 26th April last year, Adams drove away, abandoned his vehicle, but later returned to retrieve and subsequently burn it.
After initial enquiries, Jayden Adams was arrested, having initially falsely claimed he was a passenger in the vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Chloe Collins from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit commented, “Adams lied hoping he would escape the consequences of his actions. His conduct was callous.”
“Fortunately, we could establish that he was the driver on that day. He will now spend many years in prison contemplating his actions. Our thoughts remain with Mr Brown’s family and friends who have been left devastated by his death.”
