A second man’s been arrested following the death of Daniel Gardner in a house fire in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police were called alongside fire and ambulance colleagues to the property on Saxons Way, Highters Heath, shortly before 1.10am on Friday (19 September).

Daniel, aged 37, was found seriously injured and taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later.

Last night (21 September) officers arrested a man aged 18 on suspicion of murder, and he remains in police custody.

A second man, Stephen Dale, was previously arrested and has since been charged with murder.

The 47-year-old appeared before Birmingham Magistrates this morning and has been remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing tomorrow.

Daniel’s family are being supported by specialist officers and have been kept up to date with these latest developments. Paying tribute to him, they said:

“Daniel, devoted son, daddy, brother, and nephew. Words cannot describe the unbearable pain and devastation we all feel.

“You gave everything and never expected anything in return.

“Gives me comfort that you are with Nan & Grandad now who will once again look after you for me.

“My heart will always be broken but I hope I can find the strength to carry on without you.

“All my love is with you Dan. Miss you every minute of the day. Mum & Nick Ryan & Liv Elliot & Charlie Lynn & Phi.”
