Police in Birmingham are warning against the irresponsible and illegal use of fireworks.
A dispersal order has been extended across the city centre after some fireworks were launched from buildings and in the street earlier this week.
West Midlands police says its officers and vehicles were targeted and a number of people have been charged.
Section 60 powers, which give police powers to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds, will continue in the city centre.
The powers will be in place from 3pm today until 6am tomorrow morning.
The force has issued the following statement: "The Section 60 has been put in place following incidents of disorder involving fireworks in the New Street area, Dale End area and Staniforth Street.
"Groups have launched fireworks in the street and from buildings, with some aiming towards police officers and police vehicles.
"We charged 19 people with a range of offences such as assaulting police and public order following disorder on Wednesday evening.
"We won't tolerate such appalling behaviour which we know is frightening for people and puts them at risk of harm.
"The safety of our communities is paramount and we'll do all we can to ensure this.
"Misusing fireworks is not only dangerous: it’s illegal.
"Throwing fireworks in public places, targeting people or property, or causing distress can lead to fines, arrest and criminal charges.
"We’re working closely with local partners to respond to reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep our communities safe."
