Police urge people to hand in ninja swords in Coventry and Warwickshire
A campaign's underway locally as part of a national amnesty, ahead of a change in the law
People in Coventry and Warwickshire are being urged to hand in ninja swords before a ban comes into force next month.
A national surrender campaign is now underway – with a mobile van outside the Transport Museum in Coventry today and police stations in Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington and Stratford also taking weapons.
No action will be taken against anyone giving one up – and compensation can be claimed.
Inspector Ryan Walker from Warwickshire Police said:
“Reassuringly, we don’t see many of these weapons in Warwickshire, but we don’t know how many people may have one in their home. It is important anyone who does own one understands that from 1 August, possession of a ninja sword, even in a private address, is a criminal offence.”
Anyone who owns a ninja-style sword can check Home Office guidance to see if it fits the criteria.
