Police powers increased in Birmingham after man dies from stabbing injuries
Increased police activity follows Hodge Hill incident
Police in Birmingham have stepped up their presence in the city following the death of a man who was injured in a stabbing earlier this week.
The incident, reported on Ashville Avenue in Hodge Hill at around 11.50pm on Tuesday, 25th August, resulted in the man in his 30s sustaining multiple injuries.
Despite being transported to hospital, he sadly passed away on 28th August.
A murder investigation has been launched by the Major Crime Unit, who are conducting CCTV analysis and house-to-house enquiries.
At this stage, authorities continue to regard the attack as targeted.
In response, Section 60 powers, allowing police to stop and search individuals without needing reasonable grounds, have been introduced.
These powers will remain in effect until 3am on 29th August.
Superintendent Haroon Chughtai stated:
"As always, our priority is keeping everyone safe and preventing disorder. We understand the concern this incident has caused, and we don’t use these powers lightly.”
To reassure the community, police patrols are being increased in the Hodge Hill area over the weekend.
Officers are actively seeking any information from the public that could aid in the investigation.
