A dedicated police dog handler has been recognised with a prestigious Employer Recognition Award from Dudley College for his outstanding commitment to supporting students and inspiring future emergency service workers.
Over the last three years, PC Wayne Trueman from West Midlands Police has visited Dudley College regularly in his own time to speak with students about the Public Services Course.
His engaging sessions explore the many roles within policing, the different entry routes into the force, and his own rewarding experiences as a police dog handler.
PC Wayne often brings along his police dogs, Nate and Riot, to demonstrate their skills and give the students an insight into the role of dog handling in the force.
Wayne completed the Public Services Course himself and now wants to encourage younger people to do the same:
“Back when I did the course, we didn’t have those doing the roles come in and talk to us and I wanted to change that—to help students make better-informed decisions about their futures."
Last week, Wayne was formally presented with the Employer Recognition Award at a special event hosted by Dudley College, celebrating local employers and professionals who support student development. He said:
“This award means a lot. It’s a privilege to give back to a course that helped shape my own journey—and to hopefully inspire the next generation of emergency service workers.”
