Police ask for more information over Maccabi Tel Aviv ban at Villa Park
It's after fans were banned from a game in November
The Home Affairs Committee has written to West Midlands Police, Birmingham City Council and the UK Football Policing Unit requesting further information around the decision making that led to the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from attending the Europa League fixture with Aston Villa.
The Committee requests copies of the Community Impact Assessment carried out ahead of the fixture and records of meetings and communications conducted as part of information gathering and decision making.
It further requests that West Midlands Police clarifies remarks made by Assistant Chief Constable Mike O’Hara, when giving evidence to the Committee on 1 December, that Jewish community representatives objected to the presence of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans.
Given developments since that session took place, the Committee also expresses its strong expectation that the force will return to give further oral evidence in the new year.
