Motorists are being urged not to drive through flood water after yesterday's downpours across the West Midlands.

Further travel disruption is expected this morning in the wake of Storm Claudia.

Flood warnings remain in force for areas including the River Rea at Edgbaston and the Bourn Brook at Selly Oak.

West Midlands Fire Service said its officers had to rescue a number of people after they became trapped in cars yesterday.

Just after 6.00pm, WMFS posted the following information on social media:

"Today we've rescued people trapped in cars in flood water.

"If the journey isn't essential, PLEASE avoid travelling, stay clear of floodwater & NEVER be tempted to drive through it.

"ALWAYS take an alternative route."

Last night train operators issued a 'do not travel' warning with disruption across multiple routes.

The following image shows crews clearing a tree from the tracks at Sutton Park.

Further knock-on disruption is expected this morning and passengers are being advised to check the status of their journey before setting off.

A weather warning for the West Midlands has now been lifted, with Met Office forecasters predicting a drier day ahead.
