An 82-year-old who was attacked on Soho Road has died in hospital.

The incident happened last Tuesday (14th Jan) at around 3.30pm when Allen Karam Chand was taken to hospital.

Mr Chand died on Sunday. West Midlands Police said the family have been informed and are being supported by their officers.

A 43-year-old was originally charged with wounding. This charged is now being reviewed by both police and the Crown Prosecution Service, following the pensioner's death.

A post-mortem will be held in the coming days to establish his cause of death.

Detective Inspector Joseph Davenport, from West Midlands Police's Homicide team, said:

“Our thoughts are with Mr Chand’s family, and we’re doing everything we can to support them.

“We still really need to hear from people in the community who saw what happened, or the build-up to it. We believe there may a number of people who saw what happened who we have not yet spoken to.

“I’d urge them to come forward as soon as possible so we can continue to build as clear a picture as possible of what happened," he said.
