Three men have been charged after police officers were attacked in Birmingham.
They were responding to reports of a fight on Matlock Road shortly after 12:15pm on Monday (23 Feb) when they were assaulted.
Atif Ali, 30, Nasif Ali, 32, and Ali Hamza, 21 - all from Birmingham - were due before the city’s Magistrates Court this morning (25 Feb).
All are charged with affray, while Atif Ali is also charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, assault by beating, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Nasif Ali is also charged with possession of a knife, intentional strangulation, and criminal damage.
Speaking after the incident, Birmingham Police Chief Inspector Jim Mahon said: “In Birmingham and across the region, attacks on officers represent attacks on our communities, which is why we don’t hesitate in dealing robustly with those who do assault police.
“The completely unacceptable violence that these officers suffered stemmed from previous violence they had been called to deal with, and we are carrying out a full range of enquiries into this.
“We are aware of video footage showing the incident, and this is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
“Local officers remain in the area to offer reassurance, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to them.”
The officers are recovering from their injuries.
