Mohammed Ali has been sentenced to seven years in prison after admitted causing a fatal crash in Birmingham in February 2024.

The collision occurred on 18th February when Ali's Audi A4 collided with the rear of the vehicle carrying Hizar Hanif, who was killed in the crash.

Ali was reported to have been speeding at up to 90mph on Soho Road and dangerously overtaking other vehicles before the impact.

The crash also involved another car, leaving its driver seriously injured.

Mr Hanif tragically died at the scene. He was en route to a friend's house to pick up suits for his friend's upcoming wedding.

His friend suffered minor injuries but continues to mourn the loss.

After the crash, Ali was taken to hospital, where he assaulted a police officer.

He faced charges of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and assaulting a police officer.

In March, Ali, aged 27, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court and was sentenced yesterday, 17th April.

He received a driving ban of four years and six months upon release from prison.

In court, a statement from Mr Hanif's wife was shared, expressing the family's heartbreak:

"That day my life changed forever. I lost my soulmate, my son lost his daddy, his parents lost a son and his brothers lost their big brother.

"I don't understand how one minute life was perfect, and then it wasn't. This should never have happened. I have no peace and I'm living on autopilot.

Hizar Hanif

"My son didn't have enough time with his daddy and that's not ok. No child should have to experience grief so young. I am struggling to figure out how I live in a world without him beside me.

"Hizar was everything to our family. A loving husband, a devoted father, son, brother and the heart of our family. His loss is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives."
