A man who stabbed his housemate to death has been jailed for murder.

Abdou Sillah lived at a shared property on Swanage Road, Small Heath, alongside victim Kiirpal Nhian.

On 20 December last year, an emergency call was received shortly before 6.40pm that Kiirpal had been found collapsed in the garden, not breathing, and with a stab wound to his chest.

Sadly, the 29-year-old was pronounced dead a short while later.

An investigation by the homicide unit then ensued, and following CCTV enquiries Sillah was later identified and seen on camera fleeing from the address shortly after the stabbing took place.

He was arrested a few days later in possession of a knife and wearing clothing similar to that seen on the CCTV.

After a thorough investigation piecing together all the evidence, Sillah, aged 24, was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.

He was found guilty following a trial in July of murder and possession of a bladed article.

Today, appearing at Birmingham Crown Court, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 22 years in prison.

Detective Inspector Ade George, from the Homicide unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew Kiirpal and have been affected by his death.

“There is no doubt that Sillah knew his actions could lead to devastating consequences and by his attempts to hide the murder weapon and fleeing from the address, it showed he had no intent of handing himself in.

“Thanks to the work of my officers and other teams across the force, including forensics, we were able to piece everything together, track Sillah down, and put him before the courts to answer for his crimes.

“I hope this result will give everyone who knew Kiirpal some comfort that he will be put behind bars for his actions.”
