Man jailed after collision in Handsworth
It happened last November on Hampstead Road
A man has been jailed following a hit-and-run collision in Handsworth.
On 22 November last year, Sheikh Manneh was driving along Hamstead Road at around 1.30am when he veered off and mounted the pavement, hit a man and crashed into a brick wall. The car lifted into the air before landing back onto its four wheels.
The 29-year-old didn't stop at the scene, running off while leaving the injured man at the scene. The man suffered serious leg injuries and was eventually found by members of the public who called emergency services.
The Traffic Investigations Unit carried out enquiries and following forensic examinations identified Manneh as the driver of the car.
Further enquiries discovered that Manneh was already disqualified from driving at the time of the hit and run.
At a court hearing in May Manneh, of Brades Rise, Oldbury, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
The 29-year-old was handed a 16-month jail sentence last Tuesday (11 Aug) and has been disqualified for driving for a further two years and eight months.
