Man jailed for 14 years for attacking West Midlands Police officers
John Davies poured boiling water over one of his victims and punched the other
A man who attacked West Midlands Police officers by dousing boiling water over one and punching another has been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison.
John Davies, a 58-year-old from Talbot Street, Winson Green, Birmingham, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court following the violent incident at his home.
Court Proceedings
The Birmingham Crown Court heard that officers were called to a disturbance in Davies' garden, where he had cornered another individual against a fence.
Upon confrontation, Davies threw a hot drink over the person he had been arguing with, leading to a direct intervention from the officers.
During the attempt to detain him, Davies punched one officer in the face and poured boiling water from a kettle over another, causing blistering injuries to her shoulders, back, and neck.
Resolution
The officers' colleagues arrested Davies, who subsequently admitted to maliciously wounding the officer with intent to resist arrest, as well as assaults on both the officer he punched and the man he had been arguing with.
In addition to his prison sentence, Davies was given an extended licence period of four years.
Impact of the Attack
DC Manpreet Sidhu from the Bournville neighbourhood crime team commented on the attack, describing it as 'horrendous' and emphasising the challenges faced by the officers involved.
Sidhu said: "This was a horrendous attack on two officers going about their duties...no one should have to face this level of violence simply for doing their job and I hope the sentence delivered to Davies provides some justice for those involved."
Both officers involved have since returned to work after recovering from their injuries.
