A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after attacking his wife.

Raju Mollah, was found guilty earlier this week following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 49-year-old was arrested on 12 January this year, after police were called to reports of a man attacking a woman.

Following an investigation, it was found that Mollah viciously attacked his wife by pouring hot oil on her face, before violently assaulting her in a sustained attack.

Mollah pleaded guilty to inflicting GBH (grievous bodily harm) with intent, but denied attempted murder.

However, following a trial, the 49-year-old was found guilty on Monday (18 August).

The 49-year-old will be facing jail and will be sentenced in November.

Investigating officers Rebecca Pugh and George Kawalek said: "This was a vicious attack, where he clearly tried to kill his wife. The victim has been very brave having sustained significant and life-changing injuries and thankfully Mollah will be spending a good amount of time behind bars.”
