Man charged over Birmingham city centre death

Victim died after being assaulted outside venue in early hours

Joshua Johnson-Hector suffered a serious head injury on Bristol Street shortly after 04:15 GMT on Sunday, 28th of December.

He was taken to hospital but died on Monday afternoon. His family has been informed.

Police believe the assault took place near the Savanna venue.

A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has now been charged with manslaughter.

Richard Deakin, from Halesowen, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 30 December.

Police say there were a number of people in the area at the time and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
