Man arrested after a fatal collision in Birmingham

Police have arrested a man and recovered a vehicle following a suspected non-stop fatal collision in Birmingham.

A 34-year-old man sadly died after being struck by a car on Longbridge Lane, Northfield, with the collision taking place shortly after 11.15pm last night.

The man was struck on a pedestrian crossing close to Longbridge Train Station. He was given treatment at the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital but sadly died later on.

Officers stopped a vehicle this morning and arrested a 40-year-old man. He was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in custody as enquiries continue.

Specially trained officers are supporting the deceased man’s family during this difficult time.

Sergeant Rich Evans, from the Serious Road Traffic Collision Unit, said: “We have arrested a man in connection with the fatal collision. However, we are still appealing for people with information to please contact us.

“We particularly want to speak to people who may have CCTV or dashcam footage which could help us with our enquiries.”
