Man, 72, injured in 'racially aggravated' attack
Police say the man was assaulted in Willenhall Memorial Park - with investigations underway
Police in Walsall say a 72-year-old man has been assaulted in Willenhall Memorial Park.
They add the incident happened at around 6pm on 24th May, with the man suffering injuries to his face and arm.
He has since been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
Four other people were also assaulted during the incident, which remains under investigation by police.
Six teenage boys, aged between 16 and 18, have been arrested in connection with the attack.
They are currently in custody and being questioned.
According to Walsall Police, the assault is being treated as racially aggravated.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses to gather more information.
Supt Gareth Mason from Walsall Police addressed community concerns, saying: “We understand the seriousness of this incident and the concern it has caused in the community.
"Any form of hate crime will not be tolerated, and we take every report extremely seriously.”
Neighbourhood police officers have increased patrols in the area and are engaging with community members to provide reassurance and gather concerns.
The police are urging anyone who was in the memorial park around the time of the incident and has not yet spoken to them to come forward with any information.
