Arrests as loaded gun and machetes found in east Birmingham
Police urge the public to share information
Police in Birmingham have arrested four men after discovering a loaded gun and machetes during patrols in the east of the city.
Officers were conducting reassurance patrols in the Alum Rock area, responding to intelligence from the community, when they noticed a suspicious vehicle near Alum Rock Road.
A group was caught after attempting to flee.The men, aged between 24 and 30, are currently being held on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
A live revolver, ammunition, machetes, a baseball bat, and suspected cannabis were found during a search.
Further searches of a linked address uncovered more ammunition, drugs, and mobile phones.
Patrols have stepped up patrols, with a Section 60 order put in place overnight.
Det Insp Matt Baldwin, from Birmingham Police, said: "We don't use Section 60 powers lightly, and our priority is keeping the public safe and preventing disorder.
"With extra officers in the area overnight and these powers in place, excellent proactive work from our teams has seen several dangerous weapons taken off the streets.
"We are grateful to the local community for their continued support, and we continue to listen to information from them.
"Teams of officers are working together and our efforts to keep the area as safe as possible will continue.
"Anyone with information or concerns about crime in the area should speak to us as soon as possible."
