A man has been jailed after stealing more than £16,000 worth of jewellery from shops across the West Midlands.

Nick Dosanjh, 33, asked staff to take a closer look at pieces but would run from the store when they were handed over.

He did this at a shop in West Bromwich on 18 January before targeting a jewellers in Birmingham on the same day. He fled with a gold chain from both shops.

He committed similar offences in Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Solihull, Brierley Hill, Wolverhampton, and Smethwick.

His jewellery heist came to light when officers stopped him for traffic offences in May. He was driving without a licence and insurance. Checks by the officers also revealed he was wanted for a string of thefts offences.

Sgt Paul Bishop, from West Bromwich Neighbourhood Team said: “Dosanjh was charged with nine shop theft offences, with eight of them relating to jewellery shops.

“He was a brazen thief that used the same tactics for each of his offences. However, due to good CCTV footage we were able to link Dosanjh to his crime spree across the West Midlands.”
