"It's nothing compared to what Delilah went through." Lichfield dad running six ultra marathons for children's hospital
Tom Penzer Adams is raising money for Birmingham Children's Hospital after they saved his daughter's life
A Lichfield dad running six ultra marathons in six days to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital says he wants to give back after they saved his newborn daughter's life.
Tom Penzer Adams' daughter, Delilah - who's now 8 months old - was born with a twisted intestine that left her unable to feed.
Doctor's operated on her just five days after she was born.
Tom told us the difference the hospital had made:
"If it weren't for the amazing surgeons and the whole team at the children's hospital, she'd no longer be with us, which is a really scary thought," he said.
Raising money for the hospital's neonatal surgical ward, Tom will begin the challenge in Dover on 30 June.
He's beginning each day in a place that spells out the initials of Delilah's name, with Eastling, Longfield, Islington, Luton and Abthorpe all along the route.
Tom's planning to complete the final leg on 6 July at the children's hospital.
He told us the experience was completely unfamiliar to him and his wife, Grace, but the doctors and nurses helped them through.
"It was our first taste of what it's like to be in that world, and I don't think that world exists until you're in it," he said.
Tom tells us his training has been tough - but all for good reason.
"This challenge, it needs to be hard."
"With what we went through, with what Delilah went through, it's realigned my relationship with pain," he said.
"This will hurt, but it's nothing compared to what Delilah went through."
