Gunman jailed for over six years after shotgun discovery in Great Barr
Errol Grant was found guilty of possessing a sawn-off shotgun
A gunman has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison following the discovery of a sawn-off shotgun in Great Barr, just a day after it was involved in a shooting.
The weapon was found by members of the public in an alleyway near Grove Vale Avenue, on 11th March last year, prompting them to alert the police.
Alongside the double-barrelled shotgun, officers recovered a bag containing a machete and 20 shotgun cartridges.
It is believed the gun had been used in a shooting the previous day, causing injury to one individual in the West Bromwich area.
Forensic analysis showed traces of blood on the shotgun and the bag, leading to a DNA match with Errol Grant, a 25-year-old from Sussex Avenue, West Bromwich.
Grant was found guilty of possessing the sawn-off shotgun in May and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday, 23rd June.
West Midlands Police say: “The recovery of the weapon and the sentencing of Grant marks another success for Operation Target, our ongoing mission to tackle serious and organised crime in the West Midlands.
Our investigators work alongside specialist teams including firearms officers to disrupt and arrest those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation in the West Midlands.”
