Four people are being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in a four-storey building predominately made up of flats.

It started in a bedroom in one of the flats on Islington Row Middleway in Edgbaston at around 5:15am today (14 Jan). Fire crews rescued one person from the stairwell, with three men and a woman being sent to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Officers conducted a full search of the neighbouring flats to ensure there was no further spread of fire or more casualties.

The fire has since been extinguished and left with West Midlands Police.
