Over the course of the next 4 days a series of events will be taking place in the West Midlands and throughout the country to mark 80 years since victory in Europe day.

We've been speaking to a care home in Edgbaston about their plans.

Natasha Hines from the home says: "We try and honour those memories that we have with those residents and try and put them in our celebrations to make sure we're very culturally appropriate to what's happened and we can make it a bit more specific and personalised."

"We've reached out to some schools to kind of tell them about some more authentic experiences as well with what has happened in the past and we try and make it as much of a community as possible and I think that's what a lot of our residents really really enjoy from it."

Everybody during that period of time fought so hard for this country's freedom

"The main focus in it is to make sure we continue to learn from the past and give that sense of community back."

"So you can go to the people next door - you shouldn't be afraid of them - you should be able to knock on your neighbour's door and say hi how are you."

"I think that's really really important to teach children - especially in today's society."

"We don't want it to get lost."

"Everybody during that period of time fought so hard for this country's freedom."

"Everybody had to come together and find ways of making it through."

"I think at this point in our world that doesn't necessarily have to happen any more."
