A man has been jailed after firing shots and seriously injuring someone after stabbing them in Dudley. The disorder happened on Springfield Road in Lye on 5 May 2022.

Usman Jamal, 25, evaded the police for over two years before being pulled over in his car last August.

During the assault in May 2022, Jamal fired shots and stabbed a man in the leg while he sat in his car, leaving him with serious injuries.

No one else was injured.

Detective Constable Sean Grove from our Major Crime Team said: “This was a disorder in broad daylight on a residential street in Dudley where a gun and knives were used for violence. A man was seriously injured as a result.

“Jamal, knowing he was a wanted man, tried to avoid being arrested by police.

However, we caught up with him and he has been brought to justice.”

Jamal of Maughan Street, Quarry Bank was charged with wounding with intent, possession of a firearm and ammunition, two counts of possession of a bladed article and possession of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to charges at an earlier hearing and has been jailed for eight years.
