Japheth Wellington, a 39-year-old from Birmingham, has been sentenced to two years and three months in jail for a series of offences, including dangerous driving and drug possession, in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Wellington appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 10th September, where he pled guilty to multiple charges: driving dangerously, possessing class A and B drugs (cocaine and cannabis), using a fraudulent registration mark, causing criminal damage, driving while disqualified, operating a vehicle without third-party insurance, and failing to surrender to police or court bail.

The incidents occurred on 15th November last year when officers spotted Wellington's Mini with suspected cloned plates on the M6. The car failed to stop for the police, leading to a brief pursuit before being stopped on Stafford Avenue, Clayton.

Upon his arrest, police recovered cannabis, and cocaine was later discovered.

Sergeant Richard Kimberley of the road crime team highlighted Wellington's disregard for public safety during his attempt to evade capture, speeding at 60mph in a 30mph zone.

Sergeant Kimberley remarked, "Wellington showed no regard for other road users or pedestrians when he drove at 60mph in a 30mph area in an attempt to get away."

The sentencing underscores the importance of swift police action in apprehending individuals demonstrating dangerous behaviour on the roads.
