A Birmingham man has been jailed after raping a boy over a number of years and possessing hundreds of indecent images and videos of children.

Mohammed Ali, 23, of Obisbury Road in Handsworth, abused his victim for years before the victim reported him to police.

After his arrest, police found 443 indecent photographs and videos on his phone, 250 of which were Category A.

Detective Constable Georgia Taylor, from the Child Abuse Investigation, said: “Ali took advantage of a vulnerable young boy raping him on a number of occasions over a number of years.

“The boy bravely came forward to report the sexual abuse to us and we must praise him for the courage he has shown in what has been a very sensitive investigation.”

Ali pleaded guilty to eight charges of rape, four of which were the rape of a boy under the age of 13. He also admitted three charges of distributing indecent images of a child.

He was sentenced to 18 years - 12 to be served in prison, while six will be out on licence.
