A charity set up in memory of a man who was fatally stabbed in Digbeth in 2017 says it hopes the installation of 30 new bleed kits will help save lives in Birmingham.

The Daniel Baird Foundation bought the lifesaving kits following a fundraising campaign dedicated to Leo Ross - a school boy who was fatally stabbed in Hall Green in January.

The first kit was installed today on the gates of Leo Ross' school, Christ Church Academy, in Yardley Wood.

Daniel's sister Holly told us about the devastating impact of losing a loved one to knife crime:

"You have to try your best as a human being to see the good in people.

"It takes a long time but you have to show love. You can't let the actions of bad people affect who you are."

The cabinets, designed to provide immediate access to vital bleed control kits in the event of a serious injury, were funded through the efforts of local residents and organisations.

Macie Tibbins went to school with Leo Ross and told us about how she raised money for the first bleed kit:

"Me and my mum got together to make bracelets in Leo's memory.

"They were £1 each and I would sit all break and lunchtime at a stall and people would come and buy them."

Locations for all 30 cabinets have been confirmed, and the Foundation says installations will take place over the coming weeks, with each unit registered with West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Holly told us what the Foundation hopes to achieve:

"We are going to continue to try and help as many people as we can and avoid children - or anybody - losing their life because of a catastrophic bleed."

The Foundations says it's also organising awareness sessions to teach members of the public how to use the kits and equip communities with the knowledge and confidence to act quickly in critical situations.
