Police say they've arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was left in a critical condition following a serious assault in Kings Heath.

The victim, a man aged 53, was seriously assaulted on Springfield Road at around 5pm yesterday.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The 26-year-old man was arrested just before 10pm yesterday and remains in custody.

Officers say they have been carrying out CCTV, house to house and other enquiries.

Det Sgt Shereen Ballentine, of Birmingham Police, said:

“This was an appalling assault at what was a very busy time, with people walking and driving through the area.

“I’d appeal for anyone with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
