A number of people have been arrested in Walsall as part of a police operation tackling youth violence and organised crime.

It's called Op Prosper - with the aim of sending a 'clear message' to those taking part in criminality or organised crime.

They're focussing efforts in known hotspot areas, using both plain-clothed and uniformed officers.

On Thursday (17 April), one of the force's plain clothed officers spotted a woman who was wanted for a shop theft.

The 37-year-old was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of a theft from a shop at The Bridge on 12 March this year. She remains in custody while they continue with their enquiries.

On Tuesday, officers were called to Mount Street after they were called to reports of drug dealing.

They arrested a 25-year-old man at the scene and he was taken into custody on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs namely cannabis and possession of crack cocaine.

Police also seized money and two phones.

He has since been bailed with strict conditions as enquiries continue.

Sergeant Jennifer Hulston, from Op Prosper, said: “The team has made an immediate impact making arrests and disrupting criminality. We want to send out a clear message that if you are in Walsall taking part in criminality or anti-social behaviour we will find and arrest you.”

Operation Prosper has been funded by £25,000 from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.
