Drivers face disruption as Dorset Council begins major safety upgrades

Two Dorset roads have closed today as major repair and stabilisation projects get underway, causing disruptions for drivers.

Hollow Way in Bothenhampton is closed from its junction at Lansdowne Road to Crook Lane to allow Dorset Council to carry out repairs following a landslip.

This closure will last until 30th January 2026, with local diversions in place to redirect traffic.

Meanwhile, Dinah’s Hollow on the C13 between Blandford and Shaftesbury is now closed for a planned year-long project to stabilise slopes in the area.

The work is intended to protect the road from future landslips, which have repeatedly threatened public safety in past years.

The closure will affect the section of the C13 from Boundary Road, near Compton Abbas airfield, to the B3081 junction.

Diversions and safety measures have been arranged to manage traffic flow during the closure.

Dorset Council has emphasised its legal obligation as the highway authority to ensure public safety and make the area secure, particularly in Dinah’s Hollow where several landslips have previously occurred.

The work in Dinah’s Hollow will be carried out in consultation with ecologists to protect and monitor the area’s unique wildlife and habitats. Dorset Council confirmed it is working closely with local councillors and parish councils to maintain safe travel and has invited feedback by email.

Drivers are advised to follow diversion routes, with Dorset Council thanking the public for their patience and understanding as these works progress.

Attempting to use closed roads could result in fines of up to £1,000.
