LNER are warning passengers of major disruption on the trains this weekend, as Storm Éowyn is due to hit most of the country.

An Amber warning from the Met Office for wind covers the whole North East, Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire.

There is also a risk of snow as well.

LNER say there will be no trains running north of Newcastle after 11am on Friday, and services north of York will also be subject to short notice cancellation and significant delays.

They also say alternative options will be limited due to the weather.

They say trains may still show in journey planners as LNER work to amend the timetable, and they encourage customers NOT to travel to and from stations north of York on Friday.

Meanwhile, TransPennine Express (TPE) is urging customers not to travel between Manchester/Liverpool and Glasgow/Edinburgh, or on services between York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh, on Friday 24 January due to the expected gale-force winds from Storm Éowyn.

Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director, for Transpennine Express said,

"Our top priority is the safety of our customers and colleagues. We will do everything possible to keep people moving under difficult conditions, however due to the weather warnings in place for this Friday, we are having to issue advice not to travel on two of our routes.

“We urge anyone travelling on the affected routes to reconsider their plans and to follow the guidance provided."
