A man who fled the UK for Pakistan for seven months after driving a car into a woman in Slough has been jailed for 11 years.

Khurram Hussain, aged 28, of Stoke Road, was found unanimously found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent by a jury on 8 April after a seven-day trial.

At around 5pm on 18 June 2023, Hussain arrived on Windmill Road in a vehicle with others; they then took part in a violent altercation involving weapons with a man then aged in his twenties.

The man’s mother, a woman in her fifties, heard the commotion and realised her son was being assaulted so tried to help him.

During the altercation, Hussain drove the vehicle he arrived in into the woman multiple times and crushed her against a parked car.

Hussain left the scene and four hours later, booked flights to Pakistan. The defendant left the country the following day and did not return for seven months.

Following his return, Hussain evaded police for a few weeks before attending a police station on 7 February last year, where he was arrested. He was charged the same day.

The woman sustained serious injuries, which led to the amputation of her leg. Her son also suffered serious injuries. Both have since been discharged from hospital.

Mr Aziz was charged in September 2023, Mr Jamshad was charged in June 2023, and Mr Muhammad was charged in August 2023.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Elyse O’Driscoll, of Slough CID, said: “This has been a challenging and emotional case to investigate.

“Khurram Hussain used serious violence without hesitation and used a vehicle as a weapon to cause a tragic and life-changing injury to a mother in her fifties trying to defend her son.

“Hussain then chose to flee the country to evade arrest, showing no remorse for his actions.

“I am pleased Hussain has now been found guilty by a unanimous jury for his abhorrent actions on that day.

“The victim and her family have suffered immensely and are still coming to terms with what their lives look like now, all as a result of Hussain’s actions.

“Despite this traumatic incident, the victim has shown great strength and courage throughout the investigation and court proceedings and I hope that this outcome allows her to begin to move forward.

“Hussain has now been brought to justice and will have time in prison to think about his actions.

“This serves as an example that we will not waiver in our pursuit of justice even if you leave the country.

“We will never tolerate the violence displayed by Hussain on that day and I am pleased that he has now been held accountable.”

The jury also acquitted Hammad Aziz, aged 21, Mohammad Jamshad, aged 23, and Talhah Muhammad, aged 22, all from Slough, of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon, following the trial.

Three other men, then aged 19, 20 and 21, and all from Slough, who were also arrested in connection with this incident, have been released with no further action.
