Gatwick Airport train station evacuated due to major overcrowding
Incident between Haywards Heath and Gatwick causes widespread rail disruption
Last updated 29th Sep 2025
Gatwick Airport train station has been evacuated due to severe overcrowding, following major disruption across the Southern Rail network.
The disruption was triggered by an incident in which a person was struck by a train between Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport. All lines in the area were closed as emergency services attended the scene.
Southern Rail services across the network, particularly between Brighton, Gatwick, East Croydon, and London, have been suspended or heavily delayed. Passengers have been advised to avoid travel and remain onboard if their train is stopped between stations.
Tickets are being accepted on the Elizabeth Line and London Underground while services remain disrupted. There is currently no estimated time for the reopening of Gatwick Airport station.
We have approached Southern Rail and Gatwick Airport for comment.
