The UK Health Security Agency has issued heat health alerts across various regions in England, with warnings in effect from 1am on Wednesday 24th June 2026 until 11pm on Thursday 25th June 2026.

East of England, East Midlands, London, South East, South West, and West Midlands are under a red alert, signifying a severe impact on the health and wellbeing of the population due to extreme temperatures.

The areas under amber alert include North East, North West, and Yorkshire and The Humber, indicating a lesser but still significant potential health impact.

Heat Alerting System

The Weather health alerting system is managed by the UK Health Security Agency in collaboration with the Met Office. It aims to provide early warnings to various sectors, including health and social care, responder communities, voluntary and community sectors, and government departments.

Adverse temperatures may significantly influence public health, and the alerting system is part of the Adverse Weather and Health Plan.

Staying Safe

People living in affected regions are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities during peak temperatures, and check for the latest updates on the Met Office's National Severe Weather Warning Service.

Receiving Alerts

The Heat-health alerting system operates primarily from 1st June to 30th September each year, though extraordinary alerts might be issued if necessary during other periods.

Residents are encouraged to register for direct email alerts from the alerting system by completing the appropriate registration form.
