Emergency services respond to ‘tragic’ West Mersea beach incident

Emergency services are asking the public to steer clear of a section of beach in West Mersea, Essex, following an incident.

The West Mersea Coastguard Rescue Team shared on Facebook that they were called to the scene near Seaview Avenue in West Mersea, Colchester, on Wednesday evening.

"We have responded to a tragic incident on West Mersea beach,” the post read.

“Our thoughts are with the family involved,” the coastguard added, noting they would not make any further comments.

Essex Police, also addressing the public via Facebook, requested people to avoid the Seaview Avenue area and the nearby beach.

“While we remain on scene, we would ask the public to avoid the Seaview Avenue and beach area,” Essex Police said.

“We appreciate that this will cause some local issues, but would ask for your patience and understanding as we may be there for some time yet,” they added.
