Durham Cricket has cancelled its men's pre-season tour to Abu Dhabi due to concerns over the situation in the Middle East.

The decision follows discussions with relevant authorities and tour operators, concluding that it is best for the team not to travel to the UAE.

The men's squad was originally scheduled to leave Newcastle for Abu Dhabi on 9th March.

The women's squad is still planning to depart for the UAE on 23rd March, with Durham Cricket promising to provide further updates on their travel plans.

Marcus North, Director of Cricket, emphasised the focus on safety, stating: "The safety and wellbeing of our players and staff is always our absolute priority."

North added that while the cancellation is disappointing, alternative plans are in the works to prepare the squad for the upcoming season.

He also noted an upcoming announcement about the women’s tour and expressed concern for those affected by the conflict in the region.
