The UK's oldest surviving World War 2 veteran has died aged 110.

The news has been confirmed by Canal Vue Care Home in Ilkeston, where Donald spent his final moments.

"Rest easy Donald your watch is done"

Donald survived a bullet to the leg in Normandy.

He was also awarded Freedom of the Borough of Erewash just before his death, in recognition of his service to the country.

The Council Leader for the Borough of Erewash said his thoughts go out to Donald's family and friends at this time.

James Dawson wrote on social media:

"Very Sad to hear this morning of the passing of Donald Rose, at 110 the UKs oldest war veteran, Freeman of Erewash Borough and my oldest constituent.

"Rest Easy Donald, your watch is done.

"He always said that he didn’t do anything others wouldn’t have done, but with his passing is another tangible link lost with history dating back to 1914," he said.
