Mourners gathered today to pay tribute to Archie York
The funeral of 7 year old Archie York, who was killed in the Benwell house explosion last year, has taken place today.
Archie died in the explosion, which destroyed properties in Violet Close, in Newcastle, in the early hours of October 16th last year.
Today dozens of mourners gathered today to pay tribute and say goodbye to the little boy.
Archie York’s loved ones and friends gathered at West Road Crematorium to remember the popular youngster who had a ‘heart of gold’.
Four horses with red, green and blue feathers and Marvel blankets on their back - lead a carriage of flowers and images of Archie.
His family have revealed that Archie wanted to be a police officer when he grew up – sharing a picture of him wearing a uniform.
As a show of respect, officers from the Northumbria Police Mounted Section attended the funeral.
Archie’s parents Katherine and Robbie continue to be supported by specially-trained officers, and have released the following statement.
They said: “As a family, we remain absolutely devastated by the loss of our Archie.
“Our cheeky son had a heart of gold, and being in a world without him is a nightmare we can never wake from.
“Everyone loved Archie, and we would like to thank the whole community for their ongoing support.”
