Young people in Teesside say they're thankful for charities and organisations who help and support them.

They're worried about the future as they say youth unemployment is a big issue that needs tackling, especially in deprived areas.

17 year-old Iona Shergold, from Middlesbrough, goes to the KFC Foundation Youth Hub in the town.

She said: "I do think it's quite difficult nowadays. People can apply to so many jobs, they can put their all into their CV, applications and cover letters, and you just get rejection after reection because people are like 'well, I could hire this other person who has experience' or 'this person because they're older.'

"There's different ways you can volunteer here at the hub even if you don't have a job which opens up more opportunities for something laid back, where you're still going to get the experience that people are looking for.

"Even if you're going for a job in the kitchen and you want to be a chef, still being able to say 'well, I was a volunteer at a youth foundation and I helped to look after all the kids and making sure everything happened at the right time, that can still be transferable skills for the job you want."

18 year-old Jake Wilson from Hartlepool also goes there and said: "You have no experience when you come out of school, you've never worked before, and that can be really difficult because employers want someone who can do the job and if you can't prove that with any experience then you're sort of out of luck."

The KFC Foundation Youth Hub holds a number of programmes for young people to do in order to gain skills and knowledge.

They have recently done MicDrop 2, where they learn about podcasting.

Jake added: "Recording a podcast and using the equipment is experience. This experience can be used for a lot of jobs specifically media jobs. There's transferable skills and confidence is a big one, you can always use confidence anywhere."
