Tributes have been paid to a man who died in hospital after being injured in a collision in Hartlepool.

45-year-old Alan Bolton, from Newcastle, died in Middlesborough's James Cook University Hospital on Tuesday 24 March after his motorcycle collided with a car on the westbound A179 near Harts Village at 3.20pm on Friday 20 March.

Alan’s wife, Helen, has paid tribute to him, saying: “My darling husband and our children’s beloved dad was taken from us this week.

“He was a devoted son, a cherished brother and surrounded by friends who loved him.

“We are all devastated and reeling from his loss.

“Our thanks go to the Great North Air Ambulance Service and The James Cook University Hospital who did absolutely everything to save him and keep him with us, even though ultimately he couldn’t be saved, and who cared for all of his family in our darkest days with compassion, humanity and dedication.

“Alan will forever be a hero, who donated his organs so that others could live on when he could not.

“Forever in our hearts.”

Cleveland Police believe there were a number of other vehicles in the vicinity when the collision happened.

Officers would like to appeal to any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage of the incident, or dash cam footage from travelling along the A179 which may show traffic conditions at the time.
