New cancer support group in Teesside by mental health charity
The project is by Red Balloons in Stockton
A new peer support group for people with cancer in Teesside is going to have its first open drop-in session next week.
The project by Red Balloons in Stockton aims to help those who've just been diagnosed, undergoing, or have finished treatment.
Leigh Trimble is from the charity and said: "There's been a lot of research out there showing that people who are physically active before, during and after treatment often have better outcomes from their treatment and better recovery from cancer, so we're bringing our experience in peer support and physical activity to that project.
"We tend to develop projects when we see a gap in what we're offering and we feel we've got a lot of experience as we've been around since 2017 but as a charity since 2021. If we start to see a gap there we tend to develop a project then look to see if we can find some funding for it."
