31-year-old Aiden Matthews was admitted to the University Hospital of North Tees on New Years Day (Thursday 1st January), after an alleged incident which is believed to have taken place in the area of Norton High Street around 10pm on New Year’s Eve (Wednesday 31st December 2025).

Aiden passed away with his family beside him in hospital on Saturday 3rd January.

Our thoughts remain with Aiden's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

His family today issued a photo of Aiden and paid tribute to the son, dad, brother and uncle, from the Stockton area.

They said:

“Remembering you is easy. We do it every day, but there is an ache within our hearts that will never go away.”

Three men aged 20, 21 and 29 have been charged with murder and all are due to appear in court today.

A woman, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was bailed pending further enquiries.
