People in North Yorkshire are being urged not to contact their GP if they are wanting weight loss jabs.

It is as some medical practices are being inundated with calls about Mounjaro that is now available on the NHS.

Laura Angus is a chief pharmacist in North Yorkshire and she said: "You can't access these medicines yet. We are in the process of rolling out a community-based weight management service. We're asking the public and patients not to contact their GP practices to obtain these medicines at this time.

"You need to know that it's not a miracle cure and people still have to commit to lifestyle changes, healthy diets and exercise. This medicine just makes it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan and you'll receive advice, support, diet and exercise.

"If you get them via the NHS, then we can ensure that only eligible patients for this cohort get these medicines and we will be requiring all first time appointments to be face-to-face appointments. If you do get these medicines privately, we urge to only get them from a registered healthcare professional."
