Five people have been sentenced to a total of 110 years for the murder of 28-year-old Jordan Hogg.

All armed with knives and machetes, Oliver Connelly, Sidney Bashford and Ryan Moore forced their way into the 28-year-old’s home on Fonteyn Court in Hemlington.

Meanwhile a 17-year-old boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – kept watch in an alleyway outside Jordan’s flat, the teenager armed with a machete.

A short time later the three men emerge from the property having attacked Jordan inside with the weapons.

They, along with the boy, make their way towards a van nearby where Michael Charville is waiting as the getaway driver.

The court heard during the trial that the dispute involved the robbery of an expensive electric bike belonging to Bashford which occurred outside Jordan’s home.

But this dispute had nothing to do with Jordan.

Today (23rd January) they appeared at Newcastle Crown Court where they were sentenced for murder following a six-week trial last year.

Senior investigating officer DCI Chris Pringle said: “There’s no doubt that these men and the boy had one thing on their minds that night and that was the intent to cause serious harm and violence as they armed themselves with large knives in a bid to hunt down the man that they suspected of robbing their bike.

“However, it sadly led to an innocent and defenceless man being attacked inside his home.

“Despite Jordan crying out to neighbours nearby who desperately tried to help save him along with paramedics and police officers, his injuries were just too severe, and tragically he died a short time later.

“I am pleased we have been able to provide justice for both Jordan and his family, and our thoughts remain with them as they continue to process their loss.

“Unfortunately, this is the severity of what can happen when carrying a knife. The significant and devastating consequences is someone losing their life, their family losing a loved one and the offender facing many years behind bars.”

In a tribute when Jordan died, his family said: “We can’t put into words how deeply devastated our family and friends are, that Jordan has been so cruelly taken away from us.

“His absence has left a huge void in our hearts.

“Life just won’t be the same without him.

“Jordan was a funny, loving, special young man who lit up any room he walked into and was loved by everyone who knew him.

“We will keep his memory alive, ensuring he will never be forgotten.”
