Medieval hamlet installed at Kynren ahead of new County Durham show
Historic buildings set the stage for Legend of the Wear production
A medieval-themed hamlet has been installed beside the lake at Kynren – The Storied Lands in County Durham, as preparations are in their final stages for the opening of the UK’s first live action show park on 18th July.
This unique construction operation includes a collection of timber-framed and thatched buildings such as a water mill, a tower, docks and wharves, forming the backdrop for Legend of the Wear, a key production at the new attraction.
Inspired by the story of the Lambton Worm and North East folklore, the production will utilise the lake as a living stage, incorporating dramatic storytelling with special effects, stunts, and original music.
The buildings, crafted with traditional techniques by specialist craftspeople including Brandon Thatchers, have been carefully lifted into place to evoke a medieval setting on the banks of the River Wear.
Anna Warnecke, CEO of Kynren, expressed the importance of the authentic setting and craftsmanship, saying that every detail is crucial for audience immersion in the story’s world.
Legend of the Wear is a part of Kynren – The Storied Lands, which will host five major shows along with immersive experiences, complementing the award-winning evening spectacular, Kynren – An Epic Tale of England.
The daytime attraction in Bishop Auckland will allow visitors to explore history, myth, and legend through live productions featuring horses, birds, water effects, music, and large-scale theatrical storytelling.
