A man is due in court facing a manslaughter charge after the death of a 57 year old in Hartlepool.

Police say Tony Armstrong was found with severe head injuries outside a property on St Paul's Road back on the 24th of July.

A 37 year old man's set to appear before magistrates in Teesside today as police continue their enquiries.

In a statement, Cleveland Police said: "A 37-year-old man is to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 3rd August, after being charged with manslaughter.

"This comes after the very sad death of 57-year-old Tony Armstrong who sustained serious head injuries during an incident outside an address on St Paul’s Road, Hartlepool on the afternoon of Friday 24th July."

Superintendent Deb Fenny said: “Anthony’s family is aware of their loved one’s death and they are receiving support from specially trained officers. All our thoughts remain with Anthony’s family at this very difficult time.

“Despite us having made an arrest, our enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal for anyone who was in the St Paul’s Road area from around 2.45 or 3pm onwards on Friday 24th July and who saw anything or captured it on their phone, dash cam or private CCTV to get in touch.

“Please contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting ref 146385.”
