A man has been charged in connection with a report of attempted robbery in Stockton.

It happened on Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24th December) when it was alleged that a 33-year-old man tried to rob a 46-year-old woman as she went to her car after she’d attended church, however other members of the public intervened and the suspect ran from the scene.

Officers from Stockton and Middlesbrough CID made extensive enquiries and the man was arrested on Boxing Day then charged early this morning (Friday 27th December).

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court today and was further remanded into custody until his appearance at Teesside Crown Court on 24th January.

The man has also been given a 24-week prison sentence in relation to outstanding shop thefts.
