Man arrested after an attempted kidnap of a child in Hartlepool

A man has been arrested following an alleged attempted kidnap of a child in Hartlepool
Officers were called to Grosvenor Street shortly before 4pm yesterday (Friday 14th August) following reports that a man had approached a child, who was on his bike, and had attempted to grab him however he managed to get away safely.
The man was then detained by a member of the public.
Police were called to the scene and a 40-year-old white British man was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and is currently in custody for questioning.
As part of the investigation, officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information or footage to come forward.
Detective Inspector Iain Pearson said:
“I understand how concerning this will be for the local community and I want to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident.
“There will be local neighbourhood officers patrolling the area to provide reassurance and I encourage anyone who may have concerns to please speak to them.
“I know there were lots of people around at the time and I want to appeal to you to please come forward if you have information or footage that could help with the investigation.
