Labour Teesside MP 'trying to make the biggest difference'
It's been 12-months since Labour won the general election
An MP in Teesside says it has been a privilege and an incredibly busy 12-months, a year-on since Labour won the General Election.
Luke Myer represents Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland and said: "It's been incredibly busy and a huge privilege to look after my home. What I said to people when I was elected was I just want to look after the place I'm born and raised, I want to be a constituency MP and work hard for my area and that's the approach I've taken. I've come home every week, I don't have a second home in London and I just work hard for people.
"I've run 47 local surgeries so far, one in every village and town of the constituency and my team and I have dealt with over 4,000 pieces of casework, so very, very busy but trying to make the biggest difference I can and that's why I'm in the job really.
"My number one focus is bringing jobs and investment to Teesside. I think that's the most important thing that I can try and do, so any of the achievements we've had on job creation are the most important ones; for example in the Autumn last year, we had £4bn from the Government to create an industrial cluster around carbon capture storage."
He has this reassurance for people who have not been happy recently with his Party's performance: "We're in five-year term at Government and this is year one. Obviously we've started with a really tough position. Everything in the country is broken from the NHS to the economy, so there's a lot of fix and so that's taken some tough decisions and it all takes money and time to turn things around. We're nowhere near there yet and there's a lot more to do."
